Workers’ Compensation & Safety Administrator (Safety, Health & Risk Coordinator)

This position is responsible for assisting with risk management reports, assisting departments with conducting accident reports and compiles statistics for OSHA logs.

This position may administer the city-wide self-insured workers’ compensation program; respond to reported injuries and medical reports; coordinate with other departments and outside agencies on issues related to City employees’ claims; review and prepare related reports. May assist with the administration of risk management activities; investigate and report accidents to appropriate individual(s) and assist in performing inspections. Generate and process internal forms, including purchase orders, vouchers, safety & OSHA related, and revenue collection sheets. Assist in coordinating and administering the random drug-testing program. Prepare and conduct various safety training courses. Compile information and create reports for meetings, external agencies, internal communications, and/or other related purposes. Serves as the Safety Committee coordinator; coordinates meetings and prepares minutes. Compile a variety of information related to accident statistics, surveys, and OSHA logs; reports information to upper management and the Department of Labor. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The position requires a bachelor degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Risk Management, Insurance, Business or related field and three to five years experience in Workers’ Compensation, auto, property & liability claims management; safety training, drug testing or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

The following certifications are preferred, but not required: Associate Risk Management (ARM), Manager of Environmental Safety and Health Programs (MESH), or Authorized OSHA General Industry/Construction Outreach Trainer (10 and 30 hour safety training).

At entry the position requires knowledge of workers’ compensation, auto, property & liability claims management practices and procedures; applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; modern office equipment, practices, and procedures; basic accounting principles; mathematical concepts; basic safety and risk management principles.

At entry the position requires skill in operating a computer and applicable software applications; applying local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations; operating modern office equipment; performing mathematical calculations; preparing reports; obtaining facts to assure claim information is complete and accurate; conducting research; interpreting medical facts and applying them to an individual’s capacity to engage in gainful employment; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
